While I agree that a resolution to the Israeli/Palestinian conflict needs to be found and lament the recent loss of life, I do not believe it is helpful for the Vatican to be one-sided in it’s criticisms. It has to acknowledge the reasons for the Gaza blockade: mainly the threat of arms smuggling for Hamas.
Until the blockade and perimeter fences and walls were installed, Israel was subject to regular attacks from rockets and suicide bombers. Since then, few attackers have gotten through.
Until the Palestinian leaders and people work to eliminate Hamas and its mission of aggression toward Israel, no peace will be achieved.
The Vatican should always call for the Palestinians to do their part.
