VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 27, 2010 (Zenit.org).- According to the Vatican, the human person needs to be at the heart of initiatives designed to help Africa. Two dicasteries of the Roman Curia are joining forces to promote such people-centered goals.

The Pontifical Council for Culture and the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples announced on Vatican Radio that they are creating a forum to promote development in Africa.

The forum will be held in March 2011, but will aim to become a setting for ongoing reflection on concrete proposals and commitments in culture and education, thereby becoming a real springboard for Africa.

The March forum will gather several ecclesiastical and international organizations and NGOs and focus on the cultures and identities of African peoples, both on and off the continent, as well as development in African nations.

An organizational meeting for the forum is already under way through Friday in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
