Carthusian Monks to Receive Papal Visit

VATICAN CITY, SEPT. 27, 2011 (Zenit.org).- As part of Benedict XVI’s pastoral visit to the Calabria Region of Italy this month, he will visit the famous Carthusian monastery of San Bruno.

The Vatican press office released the details of the Pope’s visit to Italian towns of Lamezia Terme and Serra San Bruno, which will take place Sunday, Oct. 9.

The Pope will depart from Ciampino airport in Rome, and arrive at the airport of Lamezia Terme at around 9:15.

A public Mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. The location was not announced, but the press statement said that it would be “in an industrial area on the outskirts of the town.”

Following Mass, the Holy Father will lunch with bishops in the episcopal residence of Lamezia Terme. He will then greet the organizers of his visit before boarding a helicopter headed to Serra San Bruno.

Upon arriving at Serra San Bruno, the Pope will meet with the residents at the sports ground.

At 6 p.m., Benedict XVI will celebrate vespers and deliver a homily in the church of the Carthusian monastery of Serra San Bruno, after which he will meet the monastic community and visit a cell and the infirmary of the monastery.

He is scheduled to return to Lamezia Terme by helicopter at 7.30 p.m., and to depart from there by plane to Rome at 8 p.m.
