LAHORE, Pakistan, SEPT. 3, 2012 (Zenit.org).- The case of the Pakistani girl with Down Syndrome, Rimsha Masih, arrested after being accused of burning pages of an Islamic holy book took a new twist with the news that a Muslim cleric, Khalid Chishti, has been arrested by police and accused of planting evidence.

According to police Chishti planted pages of a Quran in a shopping bag containing burned papers and ash that had been carried by the Christian girl. The bag was then submitted as evidence to the police, the Associated Press reported.

According to press reports it was a member of the cleric’s own mosque who accused him of planting the evidence, the police said.
