Cardinal Donald Wuerl, archbishop of Washington, will lead the 11th annual Worldwide Children’s Eucharistic Holy Hour this Friday.

The Eternal World Television Network (EWTN) will broadcast the event live from the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., at 10:00 A.M. EST to more than 140 nations, with Spanish translation for Spanish-speaking countries.

Thousands of school children are expected to participate at the basilica and millions more throughout the world in their parish churches and chapels.

The Holy Hour unites children around the world before the Blessed Sacrament to pray for the families of the world, a mission entrusted to them by Pope John Paul II in his Christmas Letter to the World’s Children, in 1994, at the close of the International Year of the Family.
