Pope Names Cardinal Tomko as Envoy to Ukraine Event

Pope Francis has named former prefect of the Congregation for the Evangilization of Peoples to be his special envoy in Ukraine this Saturday, at an event commemorating the 25th anniversary of the liberation of the Greek Catholic eparchy of Mukachevoi.

The Pope’s Latin-language appointment letter was published Saturday.

The anniversary celebrations will take place at the major seminary of Uzhhorod, Ukraine.

The cardinal will be accompanied by a pontifical mission composed of two priests from Uzhhorod: Fr. Pavlov Sabov, former priest of the parishes of Strypa and Jarok in Uzhhorod, currently a collaborating priest at the Cathedral of Uzhhorod, and Fr. Vasyl Chvasta, priest of the Church of Divine Mercy at Uzhhorod. (D.C.L.)
