While most of Rome is empty on vacation to escape the August heat, the Pope’s charitable arm continues to work at full speed.

The Holy Father has sent several gifts to the immigrant residents of the Baobab Housing Center, located in Rome’s Tiburtina section.

Gifts of pasta, milk and cookies were sent to the center by the Pope through the Papal Almoner, Archbishop Konrad Krajewski, who is affectionately known by local residents as «Don Corrado.» Two deliveries were sent: one last weekend and the second yesterday, August 10th.

«Don Corrado arrived with a van filled with boxes of food including pasta, olive oil, cookies, rice, tortellini, milk and canned goods,» one of the volunteers at the center told Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

The volunteer also said that Archbishop Krajewski explained to them «that the food was sent to them directly by the Holy Father.»
