Monday in Rome, Pope Francis taped his contribution for a television program that will be broadcast on the American ABC TV network on Friday evening. It was a series of three satellite television links with three different localities in the United States that the Pope will not be visiting on his trip here later this month.
The groups with whom the Pope spoke during the television segments were: students at the Jesuit High School of Cristo Rey in Chicago, Illinois (secondary school for underprivileged youth); a center for the homeless near Skid Row in Los Angeles, California; and Sacred Heart Catholic Parish near the U.S.-Mexico border in McAllen, Texas, that has welcomed many immigrants.
From each of these centers, the audiences greeted the Pope and shared with him their stories and asked him a question. The Pope responded in his native Spanish and translations were provided.
The texts and images of the television program, filmed by the Vatican Television Center and Vatican Radio, will be made available after they have aired on the ABC network on Friday evening of this week.
The event was moderated by «World News Tonight» Anchor David Muir from the Vatican.
From this, «Pope Francis and the People,» a one-hour primetime special edition of «20/20,» will air on the ABC Television Network on Friday, September 4 at 10 p.m., ET.
