During his Angelus address on the Feast of the Immaculate Conception yesterday, Pope Francis prayed for the victims and loved ones of the earthquake which hit Indonesia the same day.
“I wish to assure you of my prayers for the victims and their families, for the injured and for those who have lost their homes,” Pope Francis said.
“May the Lord give strength to the population and support the rescue efforts,” he prayed.
According to Vatican Radio, more than 100 people were killed in the 6.5-magnitude earthquake which mostly affected the Aceh Province on the island of Sumatra. In December 2004, the same region of Indonesia was hit by the earthquake and tsunami which claimed more than 100,000 lives.
