Let our hearts be warmed to help the homeless.
Pope Francis gave this encouragement during his Angelus address today at noon, on the feast of Jesus’ Baptism.
Drawing inspiration from the Gospel reading on Jesus’ Baptism in the River Jordan when there is the revelation from His Father, that ‘You are my beloved Son; with You, I am well pleased,» the Pontiff went on to call on those gathered to think of how they too are Children of God, given their own baptisms, and how they are to joyfully witness that.
However, after reciting the midday prayer, the Pontiff lamented that the homeless are suffering temperatures that have plummeted these days in Rome, with even the fountains freezing, and as God’s children, we ought to respond.
«In these days of such coldness,» the Pope appealed, «I think of, and I invite you to do the same, of all the people living on the street, hit by the cold and often indifference. Unfortunately, some have not made it [survived].»
«We pray for them and ask the Lord to warm our hearts to help them,» he said.
