Pope Francis has appointed as metropolitan archbishop of Barranquilla, Colombia, Rev. Msgr. Pablo Emiro Salas Anteliz, currently bishop of Armenia, Colombia.
He replaces the retiring Archbishop Jairo Jaramillo Monsalve.
Archbishop Pablo Emiro Salas Anteliz
Archbishop Pablo Emiro Salas Anteliz was born in Valledupar on June 9, 1957. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Major Seminary of Bucaramanga. He obtained a licentiate in philosophy and religious sciences at the “Santo Tomás” University of Bogotá, a licentiate in dogmatic theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and licentiate in spiritual theology from the Pontifical Theological Faculty “Teresianum”.
He received priestly ordination for the diocese of Valledupar on December 2, 1984.
As a priest he has held the following offices: parish priest of “San Francisco de Asís de la Paz”, chaplain of the school “Normal María Inmaculada” of Manaure, episcopal delegate for vocational pastoral ministry, chancellor of the diocese, rector of the Cathedral Church of “Nuestra Señora del Rosario” of Valledupar, professor of dogmatic theology in the John Paul II Seminary of Valledupar and diocesan vicar for pastoral ministry.
On October 24, he was appointed as bishop of Espinal, Colombia. He received episcopal ordination the following December 2. On August 18, 2014, he was appointed as bishop of Armenia, Colombia.
