This afternoon, Pope Francis is meeting the Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, stated a June 20 Holy See Press Office Bulletin.
The Sri Lankan Cardinal, according to the Italian agency AGI, is in the Italian capital for the press conference of the pontifical foundation, Aid to the Church in Need, which this morning presented its annual report.
«I brought the Holy Father a DVD to show him what
happened in Sri Lanka at Easter,» he said referring to the attacks on churches and hotels which killed more than 300 Christians, «and to understand what can be done.»
«We were very moved,» Cardinal Ranjith expressed, by the Holy Father’s words.
«I know he was struck by this tragic event. He sent me also a message.»
The Vatican has not released any further information regarding the private encounter.
