Pope Francis has appointed seven religious – for the first time – members of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, and 16 men, this morning the Office of the Press of the Holy See, Monday, July 8, 2019.
Among the new positions are Spaniards Luis Francisco Ladaria Ferrer, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, and Ricardo Blázquez Pérez, Archbishop of Valladolid; the Venezuelan Arturo Sosa Abascal, general head of the Society of Jesus; the Mexican José de Jesús González Hernández, a Franciscan and prelate of Jesús María, and the Colombian Guillermo León Arboleda Tamayo, abbot president of the Casinesa Sublacense Congregation of the Order of Saint Benedict.
Seven general superiors
The general superiors appointed by the Holy Father are: Kathleen Appler, Superior General of the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul; Yvonne Reungoat, Superior General of the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian of Don Bosco); Françoise Massy, Superior General of the Franciscan Missionary Sisters of Mary; Luigia Coccia, Superior General of the Missionary Sisters, Pious Mothers of the Nigricia (Comboni Missionaries); Simona Brambilla, Superior General of the Consolata Missionary Sisters; M. Rita Calvo Sanz, Superior General of the Order of the Company of Mary Our Lady; and Olga Krizova, general president of the Don Bosco Secular Volunteer Institute.
The Holy Father has appointed Cardinals as members of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life: Angelo De Donatis, vicar general of His Holiness for the Diocese of Rome; Kevin Joseph Farrell, prefect of the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life, and camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church; Luis Francisco Ladaria Ferrer, Jesuit, prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith; and Ricardo Blázquez Pérez, Archbishop of Valladolid (Spain).
The bishops appointed members of the Vatican congregation are: Amilton Manoel da Silva, Passionist, Auxiliary Bishop of Curitiba (Brazil); Paolo Bizzeti, Jesuit, Apostolic Vicar of Anatolia (Turkey); Sebastian Francis Shaw, Franciscan, Archbishop of Lahore (Pakistan); Paskalis Bruno Syukur, Franciscan, Bishop of Bogor (Indonesia); and José de Jesús González Hernández, Franciscan, Prelate of Jesús María (Mexico).
Regarding those who are superior generals, it is Arturo Sosa Abascal, General Head of the Society of Jesus; Guillermo León Arboleda Tamayo, abbot president of the Casinesa Sublacense Congregation of the Order of San Benito; Saverio Cannistrà del Sagrado Corazón, Superior General of the Discalced Carmelites; Robert Irvin Schieler, Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools; Alejandro Moral Antón, prior general of the Order of San Agustín; Roberto Genuin, general minister of the Franciscan Order of the Capuchin Minor Friars; and Leonir Mario Chiarello, superior general of the Missionaries of San Carlos (Scalabrinians).
