At 9 o’clock this morning [July 20, 2019], the operations began regularly at the Campo Santo Teutonico, in the ambit of the investigative tasks of the Orlandi case. As indicated in the decree of the Promoter of Justice of Vatican City State, the operations concern two singled out burial places in an area adjacent to the tombs of Princess Sophie von Hohenlohe and of Princess Charlotte Federica of Mecklenburg.
The remains have been analyzed and studied in loco already in these hours by Professor Giovanni Arcudi and his staff — in the presence of a trusted expert appointed by the Orlandi Family — in keeping with protocols recognized at the international level.
At present, it’s not possible foresee the time of duration for the conclusion of the operations, in order to complete the morphological analyses of the remains found in the burial places.
Working today in the Campo Santo Teutonico, in addition to Professor Arcudi and his staff, is the personnel of the Fabric of Saint Peter for the opening and closing of the burial places and the personnel of the Operative Security Centre {Centro Operaitvo di Sicurezza (COS)] of the Vatican Gendarmerie. Present also is the Promoter of Justice of the Tribunal of Vatican City State, Professor Gian Piero Milano, and his Assistant, Professor Alessandro Diddi, the Orlandi Family’s lawyer and the Official responsible for the services of the Judiciary Police of the Gendarmerie’s Corps.
With this new expert activity — after the operations of last July 11 — evidenced once again is the Holy See’s availability to the Orlandi Family, an availability demonstrated from the beginning, in accepting the request for verification in the Campo Santo Teutonico , though on the basis of a mere anonymous indication.

At 3:00 pm the operations at the Campo Santo Teutonico concluded, in the ambit of the investigative task of the Orlandi case. Professor Giovanni Arcudi and his staff — in the presence of the trusted expert appointed by the Orlandi — have brought to light the remains present in the burial places, which have undergone a first assessment.
According to a decision of the Office of the Promoter of Justice of the Tribunal of Vatican City State, the expert operations will continue on Saturday, July 27, at 9:00 am with an in-depth morphological analysis of the remains contained in the burial places.
