Pope Francis has appointed Msgr. Dario Edoardo Viganò as the new vice-chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and Social Sciences.

The nomination was published in a bulletin of the Holy See Press Office on August 31, 2019.

«The Holy Father,» it read, «has appointed as Vice-Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, with specific competence in the field of communication, Msgr. Dario Edoardo Viganò , until now assessor in the Vatican’s Dicastery for Communication.»

Prior to being assessor, Msgr. Viganò served as prefect of the dicastery.
