«Let us pray to the Lord for the victims of the horrible attack yesterday, in Mogadiscio, Somalia, where more than 70 people were killed in a car bomb explosion.»

Pope Francis urged the faithful in St. Peter’s Square today to join him in prayer during his Angelus address, as he reflected on the terrorist attack yesterday in the Somalian capital.

«I am close to their loved ones, and to all who mourn their loss,» the Pope expressed.

The death toll continues to rise. Currently, reports show, at least 90 have died, and at least 100 have been injured. While no group has specifically claimed responsibility for the attack, the country’s president has expressed that likely the al-Shabab armed group is behind the attack.

As is customary, following the midday prayer, Pope Francis greeted the pilgrims present and concluded wishing everyone good Sunday and lunch, and telling them to not to forget to pray for him.
