Cardinal Philippe Ouedraogo is hospitalized with COVID 19, marking the second cardinal to have been confirmed with the disease.

The first cardinal was Vicar General of Rome, Cardinal De Donatis, who is hospitalized, but said to be in good condition. Saying he is “serene” and “calm,” Cardinal De Donatis has expressed that he entrusts himself to the Lord, and sees this trial as an opportunity to share in the suffering of so many brothers and sisters.

Now, Cardinal Philippe Ouedraogo, Archbishop of the diocese of Ouagadougou, in Burkina Faso, in West Africa, has tested positive for the coronavirus.

This was stated in a note from the vicar general of this same diocese, Father Alfred Ouedraogo, on March 30, 2020, which added that the cardinal was transferred to a clinic for care and hospitalized.

The cardinal wants to reassure the people of God, he expressed in a note, adding he “invites” all faithful “to remain united in prayer for him and for all the other sick as well as for all those who care for them.”

Cardinal Philippe Ouedraogo, 75, is the second bishop of Burkino Faso with coronavirus, after Bishop Séraphin Rouamba, former president of the Episcopal Conference of Burkina-Niger and Archbishop of Koupela, tested positive on March 25.
