The decision would come just weeks after the Archdiocese of Portland, Oregon, filed for bankruptcy and could ultimately lead to the closure of parishes, schools and ministries, and claim a cut from the collection plate each week, the Arizona Republic reported.
«It could happen at any time,» said Bishop Gerald Kicanas. He did not say a bankruptcy filing is imminent, but he made it clear no other solutions are on the table, the paper said.
Under a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, the diocese would be protected while developing a plan to compensate creditors.
