Clothes, food, money and other aid are helping more than 230,000 displaced flood victims in Malawi, reported Fides.
The nation’s bishops distributed these donations totaling some 1 billion kwachas ($192,000) to the victims after having made their national collection February 8 in all the country’s parishes.
In January, after two weeks of heavy rains, 275 lives were claimed and more than 230,000 were forcibly displaced in 15 of the 28 nation’s districts.
The African country of Malawi is known to be one of the poorest in the world. There, where agriculture accounts for 30 percent of national GDP, more than 64,000 hectares of farmland were devastated.
