(ZENIT News / Lisboa, 06.26.2023).- The organizing team of the World Youth Day has opened registrations for «JMJ Sports,» a sports event that is part of the Youth Festival. This initiative will feature a 7-a-side football tournament and a beach volleyball tournament, both open to mixed teams.
For the first time in a World Youth Day (JMJ), pilgrims will have the opportunity to participate in a beach volleyball tournament, which will take place on August 2nd at Carcavelos Beach. The football tournament has been a recurring event in previous editions of the JMJ and will be held at the University Stadium in Lisbon, also on August 2nd.
In this section of the Youth Festival, in addition to witnessing a 7-a-side football and beach volleyball tournament, attendees will also have the chance to see inclusive sports. «Sport can be a symbol of unity for society,» said Pope Francis at the International Symposium «Sport for All: Coordinated, Accessible, and Adapted to Each Person.»
During the afternoon of August 2nd, at Pavilion 2 of the University Stadium, with the support and organization of the Benfica Foundation, participants can engage in various Inclusive Sports stations, trying out sports such as Blind Football, Walking Football, and Korfball. No prior registration is required, but participation is limited to the capacity of the space.
To participate in any of the tournaments, it is necessary to be registered as a pilgrim for JMJ Lisbon 2023 and be between 16 and 30 years old.
Registration is individual, allowing participants to meet young pilgrims from around the world, and you can only register for one of the tournaments. Registration is open from June 20th to June 30th, and at the end of the registration period, selected pilgrims will be contacted by the JMJ Lisbon 2023 organization with further information.
