The Vatican announced today Benedict XVI’s appointment of Bishop Joachim Ouédraogo, who had been bishop of Dori since 2004.
The 49-year-old prelate succeeds Bishop Basile Tapsoba, who resigned in May.
The Diocese of Koudougou has about 278,000 Catholics in a population of more than 1.6 million. They are served by some 80 priests and 180 religious.
Burkina Faso has a Muslim majority of 60% and a Catholic minority of just under 20%.
