Our Lady of Walsingham

A response to: Solemn Mass Marks 950th Anniversary of Walsingham

As an Episcopal priest of almost 40 years, I have had the opportunity of being at the Anglican National Pilgrimage to the Shrine of our Lady of Walsingham (OLW). In my home Episcopal Diocese of Albany, NY, we have a Diocesan Shrine to Our Lady of Walsingham in Warrensburg, NY. At my parish, Emmanuel Church Little Falls, NY, we even have a Icon of OLW painted by a noted Russian Iconographer Iuri Kurchikov of the Jordanville, NY’s Russian Orthodox Monastery.

What I would like to add to your article, which was left out is that the Orthodox Church also has a presence and Chapel at Walsingham. In the article you mentioned that the shrine is a great leveler between Roman Catholicism and Anglicanism. In reality you have to also add Orthodoxy. All I can add to this is, «Our Lady of Walsingham, pray for us. Amen.»

Blessings,

Father Steven Angelo Scarcia
