The Cuba bishops´ conference said that in offering this recognition, St. John´s considered above all the cardinal´s pastoral work as the head of the capital´s archdiocese. The cardinal will travel to New York on Friday to receive the honor.

HAVANA, JAN. 16, 2001 (ZENIT.org).- St. John´s University in Queens, New York, will confer a honorary doctorate of law on Cardinal Jaime Ortega y Alamino, archbishop of Havana.
