Of the more than 350 priests ordained in Rome since 1991, about two-thirds are from communities of the diocese. They received their formation in one of Rome´s four seminaries.

Some 70% of vocations born in Roman communities come from parishes, about 12% from religious institutes, and around 15% from other ecclesial institutions. The average age of ordinands is about 29 to 30.

The diocesan conference at the Basilica of St. John Lateran ended Thursday.

Cardinal Camillo Ruini, the Pope´s vicar for Rome, delivered the congress´s opening address. Comparisons were made of the 36 prefectures, or ecclesiastical zones. The meeting was followed by a prayer vigil in all parishes and rectorates.

The Union of Women Religious Superiors presented a plan whereby communities of religious will pray for vocations on a round-the-clock basis.
