ROME, MAY 16, 2003 (Zenit.org).- At the request of John Paul II, an international congress entitled «Christian Humanism in 3rd Millennium from Thomas Aquinas’ Perspective» will be held in Rome this upcoming September 21-25.
The Pontifical Academy of Saint Thomas (PAST) and the Thomas Aquinas International Society (SITA), have convoked the congress, which will be held at the Palazzo della Cancelleria, Rome.
Father Abelardo Lobato, O.P., president of PAST, explained that the «Congress’s intention is to treat the topic of humanism in all its extension and depth, from the historical, human sciences, [and the] philosophical, and theological point of view, in the same way as Saint Thomas did in his work.»
«The perspective of the Doctor Humanitatis is open to the whole horizon of truth. Moreover, for Saint Thomas, the problem of man is resolved in an integral way when confronted with the mystery of Christ, as affirmed by Vatican Council II (Gaudium et Spes, 22),» he added.
The registration fee is 25 Euros (approximately $29 dollars). Those interested in attending should register before September 10 by consulting the congress’ web page at: http://e-aquinas.net/?idio=en&id=68.
Communications may be sent to the congress secretariat before June 30, with a maximum number of ten pages. An abstract in English of the communications, with a maximum of 15 lines, may also be presented.
Access to the lectures, communications, and forums will also be available on the Congress’ web page.
