VATICAN CITY, MAY 29, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI today recalled the 30th anniversary of the death of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski, primate of Poland.
In Polish-language greetings after the midday Regina Caeli, the Pope mentioned the cardinal, referring to him with the popular title used for him, “Primate of the Millennium.”
“Invoking the gift of his beatification, let us learn from him total abandonment to the Mother of God,” the Holy Father said. “May his trust expressed in the words: ‘I have put everything in Mary’ be for us a particular model. We recall this at the end of the month of May dedicated in a particular way to Our Lady.”
Cardinal Wyszynski (1901-1981) was a key figure in Polish resistance to Communism.
Benedict XVI also recalled Saturday’s beatification of an Italian nun, Sister Maria Serafina of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (born Clotilde Micheli).
Blessed Maria Serafina (1849-1911) is the founder of the Sisters of the Angels. The beatification took place in Cerreto Sannita, Italy, north of Naples.
“In recalling the 100th anniversary of her birth into eternal life,” the Pope said, “we gather in recollection with her spiritual daughters and all those devoted to her.”
