To the Eastern Christians who celebrated Christmas on January 6 and 7, in particular Egypt’s Orthodox Copts, Pope Francis wished for “communion.”
During the Angelus, over which the Holy Father presided on January 6, 2018, the feast of the Epiphany, the Pontiff greeted the Eastern Churches, “Catholics and Orthodox, who celebrate these days the Lord’s Birth.”
“I address to them my warmest wishes: may this joyous celebration be the source of new spiritual vigor and of communion among all of us Christians, who recognize Him as Lord and Savior,” he said.
The Pope then added some impromptu words for Egypt’s Christians. “I would like to express especially my closeness to the Orthodox Coptic Christians and to greet warmly our brother Tawadros II, on the joyous occasion of the consecration of the new cathedral in Cairo,” he added.
