Haiti: Monsignor Launay Saturne Appointed Archbishop of Cap-Haitien

He Is President of the Episcopal Conference

Pope Francis on July 16, 2018, appointed Monsignor Launay Saturne, 54, up to now Bishop of Jacmel, Metropolitan Archbishop of Cap-Haitien (Haiti). He has been President of the Haitian Episcopal Conference since 2017.

Monsignor Launay Saturne was born on January 14, 1964, at Delatte (Petit-Goave), in the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince. He was ordained priest on May 10, 1991, for the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince.

After his priestly Ordination, he was Vicar of the Sacred Heart parish of Turgeau, at Port-au-Prince (1991-1997), and Director of the Propedeutique [foundation course for first-year University students] House at Jacquet, for the Archdiocese of Port-au-Prince.

From 1998 to 2003 he studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, obtaining a doctorate in Dogmatic Theology (Ecclesiology).

Beginning in 2003, he was Director of Studies and Professor of Theology at the Grand Inter-Diocesan Seminary at Port-au-Prince. In addition, beginning in 2004, he was Head of the Committee in charge of the Marian pastoral in the same Archdiocese and, since 2005, he has been National Secretary of the Commission of Young People’s pastoral in Haiti.

He was appointed Bishop of Jacmel on April 28, 2010, and received Episcopal consecration the following May 29.
