New Apostolic Nuncio Named for Malta

VATICAN CITY, JUNE 6, 2003 (Zenit.org).- John Paul II appointed Archbishop Felix del Blanco Prieto as apostolic nuncio in Malta, to replace Archbishop Luigi Conti, who stepped down for reasons of age.

Archbishop del Blanco Prieto, until now nuncio in Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea, was born in Morgovejo, Spain, in 1937. He was consecrated bishop in 1991.

About 91% of Malta’s roughly 400,000 people are Catholic.
