Opening Match of 14th Edition of ‘Clericus Cup’ to Be Held March 8

The 14th edition of the “Clericus Cup, ” the international soccer championship for priests and seminarians, supported this year by the Knights of Columbus, is to be presented at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at the Pius XI Sports Center, states a press release of the organizers.

Father Alessio Albertini, National Ecclesiastical Assistant of the Italian Sports Center, will preside over the Mass at 10:00 am in the Chapel of the Knights of Columbus. The opening match of the international ecclesiastical tournament will take place on March 8.

The championship is promoted by the Italian Sports Center with the patronage of the National Recreation, Tourism and Sports Office of the Italian Episcopal Conference, of the Dicastery for the Laity, the Family and Life, and the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for Culture.

The Clericus Cup was launched officially in 2007, but it made its debut in 2003, when Jim Mulligan, a seminarian of the Pontifical Beda College, organized a tournament involving eight international teams of seminarians of Rome.
