Pope Francis is scheduled to meet with Bishop Franz-Peter Tebartz-van Elst, whose resignation was accepted by the Holy See following an investigation into the construction of a new residence.
In a brief article released by the Vatican Radio’s German website, the German prelate will meet with the Holy Father tomorrow at the Vatican Apostolic Palace.
The former Bishop of Limburg faced scrutiny when it was revealed that an estimated €31 million ($42 million) was spent on the construction of a new residence and offices. Much of the spending had been authorised by his predecessor.
The Holy See stated that Bishop Tebartz-van Elst will receive another assignment “at an opportune time.” (J.A.E.)
