The work, edited by Sergej Kravets, reveals the remarkable progress made in recent times in religious and ecclesiastical disciplines, biblical studies, Church history, as well as in philosophy, literature and theology.

The Vatican missionary agency Fides describes the material used as «excellent,» and the language as «balanced and dignified.» The encyclopedia «promises to be a significant and necessary stimulus for the study of Christian culture in Russia,» the agency said.

A three-volume Russian Catholic encyclopedia will be published almost at the same time. It is produced by the Franciscans in Moscow, and edited by Father Grzegorz Cioroch. It will highlight, in part, the value and influence of Catholic culture in Russian history and traditions.
