The stamps depict different stages in the life of the archbishop of Tegucigalpa, from his childhood to Feb. 21 of this year, when John Paul II offered him a cardinal´s ring at a special ceremony in the Vatican.

Most of the stamps cost $1. The main stamp of the series has a picture of Cardinal Rodríguez being embraced by the Holy Father in Rome, with the quotation "a life consecrated to the service of his neighbor."

Honduran President Carlos Flores Facusse explained the reason for the stamps: "Through these postal stamps we always remember special moments in the life of Hondurans."

Cardinal Rodríguez was president of the Latin American bishops´ council (CELAM) from 1995 to 1998.
