Anglican Church in Canada on Verge of Bankruptcy

Anglican Bishop Peter Coffin of Ottawa said that since 1998, some 7,500 members of the Indian community in Canada have filed 4,200 reports and are demanding reparation.

The bishop said that about 140 complaints are made every month. The legal expenses alone are enough to push the Anglican Church to the verge of bankruptcy, which might be declared before the end of the year.

Bishop Coffin explained that the Anglican Church has administered schools for natives with a mandate from the Canadian state. Therefore, he added, the state is also partly responsible for the tragedy, which began a century ago.

Experts in religious questions in Canada believe that the authorities appear to be opting for the bankruptcy of the church.
