Dublin Ready for Historic Interreligious Gathering

DUBLIN, Ireland, MARCH 18, 2002 (Zenit.org).- An interreligious gathering of leaders to pray for world peace will mark a first for Dublin, the archdiocese says.

In the wake of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Cardinal Desmond Connell invited members of different religions to the gathering this Wednesday in Clonliffe College.

About 100 representatives and members will be present, including Anglican Archbishop Walton Empey of Dublin, Orthodox Father Irineu Cracium, Chief Rabbi Yaakov Pearlman, Buddhist monk Thubten, and imam Ali Abdulla Al-Salah of the Ahlulbait Islamic Center.

The papal nuncio, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, is also expected to attend.
