Cardinal Of Havana Says 83% Of Cubans Are Believers

In statements to TMT, the television channel of the Archdiocese of Madrid, the Cuban Cardinal Jaime Lucas Ortega explained that the laity plays a key role in this rebirth. "At present there are 250 mission and prayer houses in the Cuban capital," he said.

The Cardinal added, "83% of Cubans say they are believers."

As regards the situation in the Caribbean Island, Cardinal Ortega said: "the Catholic Church will never be belligerent; we must struggle to express always what is our right, trying to listen to the other, even if he thinks differently."
