Pier Ferdinando Casini, revealed in a statement Saturday that, when he visited the Pope, «I renewed to His Holiness my predecessor´s invitation to address the Italian Parliament, which, beyond ideological and political differences, recognizes his very high spiritual and moral authority.» John Paul II was previously invited in 2000.

The Vatican has not commented officially on the latest invitation. But has let it be known that the Holy Father´s tight schedule in the coming months — trips to Canada, Guatemala, Mexico and Poland — would delay such a visit until at least next year.
