Anglican Leader's View Overstated

ROME, JULY 12, 2002 (Zenit.org).- Because of translation errors, Anglican Archbishop George Carey’s opinion of John Paul II was overstated in a June 21 story.

Dr. Carey’s actual quote, according to his press secretary, the Reverend Jonathan Jennings, was: «I have a high regard for him as a fellow Christian and respect his leadership enormously in worldwide Christianity.»

The original story incorrectly said that Dr. Carey called the Pope the «spiritual leader for the whole of Christianity.» ZENIT regrets the error.
