«The hour has arrived not only to ring the church bells, but to ring the bell of all homes to preach the Gospel door-to-door,» the organizers said in a statement. «In this way, we hope that one of the great longings of the Pope, John Paul II, for the third millennium will be fulfilled.»

The general coordination of the mission, which begins in August, has been entrusted to Archbishop José Mario Ruiz of Portoviejo. He will oversee a working team composed of curates, representatives of the Ecuadorean Commission of Religious and of the Federation of Catholic Teaching, and representatives of lay and apostolic movements.

The missionaries will visit, house by house, all the families in every parish to invite them to participate in small gatherings in predetermined places. The gatherings will focus on Scripture study and the praying of the rosary.
