At the end of the celebrations in the basilica of Caacupe on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, Bishop Claudio Jiménez made a pastoral analysis of the country’s situation.

In particular, he emphasized the need to “construct a new Paraguay,” and appealed to citizens to make “radical changes” in themselves.

“In our recent message, the bishops of Paraguay have energetically exhorted that it is urgent that we construct a new country; we requested vehemently that the authorities govern, legislate and impart justice with responsibility and honesty,” the bishop of Caacupe said.

Bishop Jiménez appealed to the faithful to exercise their right to vote in the next elections — party elections are this month, and general elections are on April 27 — and to choose “candidates who are honest, efficient in public administration, devoid of negative backgrounds, and heads of stable families.”

“We want to offer our civic maturity and not allow certain fraudulent customs to be repeated in the elections,” the bishop stressed during the celebration, to which on this occasion political leaders were not invited.
