«While the building remains a symbol of the Church, the edifice also becomes a sign of the earnest desire for a revitalized Church strengthened in fidelity to our Lord,» the Pope said in a message read by his nuncio in Ireland, Archbishop Giuseppe Lazzarotto, during the dedication service Sunday, the Belfast Telegraph reported.
Guests on hand included Irish President Mary McAleese and Cardinal Desmond Connell of Dublin.
Archbishop Sean Brady of Armagh praised the diocese’s clergy and people who helped with the £6 million ($9.8 million) project.
