The two main topics will be the enlargement of the European Union to 25 countries from 15, and ecumenism. In response to a request from the Vatican, Christians of other confessions present in Europe will participate for the first time.

Plans are also under way for a system of communication among Europeans through organizations’ networks and personal and group e-mail addresses, to make politicians aware of the need to recognize the continent’s Christian roots and to encourage participation in politics.

The Convention of Christians for Europe is a permanent forum for reflection and debate, which was created in Barcelona last year to promote Christian thinking on the whole process of the construction of Europe, especially in the elaboration of the Constitution, respecting religious pluralism and freedom of thought.
