The course is being given by the court of the Apostolic Penitentiary, which resolves cases of the internal forum, that is, questions of conscience.
The course, which ends next Saturday, is headed by Cardinal James Francis Stafford, the major penitentiary.
Conventual Franciscan Father Gianfranco Girotti, the penitentiary’s regent, will address delicate cases that confessors might face.
In subsequent days, prelates of the Apostolic Penitentiary will address the topic of canonical discipline on offenses and punishments, the newspaper Avvenire reported today.
Emphasis will be placed on «the correct administration of the sacrament of penance and the solution of delicate, complex cases which are subjected to the judgment and mercy of the Church,» the newspaper stated.
John Paul II will receive the participants of the course in audience on Saturday.
