During his Tuesday-to-Thursday visit, Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo will meet with Foreign Minister Jack Straw and Chancellor Gordon Brown, among other government officials, according to an announcement today by Vatican press office director Joaquín Navarro-Valls. Archbishop Lajolo will also visit the two Houses of Parliament.

The archbishop will meet with Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, president of the bishops’ conference of England and Wales, and with Anglican Archbishop Rowan Williams of Canterbury.

Last October, John Paul II named Archbishop Lajolo as the secretary of the Holy See for relations with states.

The section for relations with states fosters diplomatic relations with nations and other subjects of international law; represents the Holy See in international organizations and congresses on public issues; and reviews the activity of apostolic nuncios abroad.
