Bishop Renato Boccardo, secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications and organizer of papal trips, gave details of the apostolic pilgrimage in a news conference today. The conference was organized by the Italian bishops’ National Service for Youth Pastoral Care.

«The Pope’s arrival is anticipated for Friday, August 19, 2005,» said Bishop Boccardo, according to the bishops’ SIR news service.

«On Saturday the 20th, he will preside at the prayer vigil with young people, and on Sunday the 21st, he will celebrate the Mass,» he said.

«The Pope is very interested in this trip and in the contact with young people,» the bishop added. «The World Youth Days have become a visible event of the whole difficult work of education in the faith and for life, carried out every day in the local Churches.»
