Islamic Nations to Broadcast Christmas Blessing

VATICAN CITY, DEC. 23, 2004 (Zenit.org).- A total of 114 channels will transmit John Paul II’s Christmas Day message and blessing to 72 countries, including some Islamic nations.

The transmission that will take place at midday Saturday from St. Peter’s Square has been confirmed by channels in Turkey, Morocco, Algeria and Indonesia, according to Vatican reports released today.

For the Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, 111 stations have reserved transmission. The Holy Father will preside over this Mass.

In Africa the events will be televised in eight countries including Angola and Burundi.

In Asia the events will be televised in the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Jordan, Israel, Sri Lanka and Turkey.

In Europe, among the 38 countries that will televise both ceremonies are Russia, Belarus, Romania, Greece, Bosnia, Moldova, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.
