Bishop Named for Reno

RENO, Nevada, DEC. 23, 2005 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI has appointed Father Randolph Calvo, a priest of the San Francisco Archdiocese, as bishop of the Reno Diocese.

Father Calvo, 55, is now pastor of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Redwood City, California.

The bishop-elect was born in Agana on the Pacific island of Guam. He was ordained a priest in 1977.

He earned a doctorate in canon law at the University of St. Thomas, the Angelicum, in Rome.

He succeeds Bishop Phillip Straling, 72, who retired in June. Father Calvo’s appointment was announced today.

The Diocese of Reno has about 91,000 Catholics in an overall population of 607,000.
