In the article, Dr Scarnechia identified three key rights of the embryo that are governing this debate. It seems as if the right to life is being trumped by the kind of life the embryo has. Every child has the right to be conceived in a mutual act of love, carried to birth under its mother’s heart, etc.
It is as if these conditions are not met, the embryos don’t have a right to life. I am not an ethicist, and I accept the judgment of the Church in this matter — but I don’t see how the Holy See can reconcile itself with this.
I do not see how embryo adoption and giving a child a womb to grow in is so terribly different from adopting a child and giving it a home to live in. It is an act of tremendous generosity and charity.
