Maronite Bishops Call on Youth for Public Service

BKERKE, Lebanon, MAY 7, 2010 (Zenit.org).- The Maronite bishops are stressing the need for the involvement of young Christians in public administration and military forces.

The prelates stated this in the conclusions of their monthly meeting at Bkerke, which took place Wednesday under the chairmanship of the Maronite patriarch, Cardinal Nasrallah Sfeir.

In a communiqué, the bishops affirmed that «the public service of the homeland is a common responsibility which requires that all be committed to the spirit of the national pact.»

They underlined the importance of «cooperation among all the groups of the Lebanese people» in order to build up their homeland.

The communiqué affirmed that «the future of the homeland depends on the cooperation of all its children in bearing responsibility and in achieving all its options.»
