Auxiliary Appointed for Gwangju, South Korea

GWANGJU, South Korea, MAY 12, 2011 (Zenit.org).- Benedict XVI appointed Father Simon Ok Hyun-jin of the Gwangju Archdiocese as auxiliary bishop of that same city.

Bishop-elect Hyun-jin, 43, was born in that city and ordained a priest in 1994. He has been teaching at the Catholic University of Gwangju.

He will serve under Archbishop Hyginus Kim Hee-jong, 64.

The Gwangju Archdiocese has 329,951 Catholics, 270 priests and 722 religious.
